Crystal has a Bachelor of Science from Trent University as well as a diploma as a Laboratory Technician from CDI College. Since joining the SEM team in November 2010, Crystal has been part of a variety of projects including consultation programs, field sampling and environmental monitoring. She has led and been part of freshwater field studies that involved the collection of water, sediment, benthos, fish and plankton. She has also been included in fish population studies using electrofishing equipment. Crystal's diverse experience also includes organizing and mediating public consultations throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
In addition to her biological role, Crystal has extensive experience in word processing and database management. Crystal was involved in leading a team responsible for database structuring and word processing for a recent major environmental impact statement. Currently, Crystal is the project manager for the Quality Management System at SEM.
